Premium Indonesian Nutmeg Exporter

Nutmeg is a prized spice harvested from the evergreen tree Myristica fragrans, native to Indonesia. These spices have been treasured for centuries for their culinary, medicinal, and aromatic properties.

Our company one of the largest Nutmeg processor and exporter from Indonesia.

Why Indonesian Nutmeg?

Indonesia produces around 75% of the world’s nutmeg, making it the leading global supplier of this premium spice. Grown on fertile volcanic soil in a tropical climate, Indonesian Myristica fragrans trees are known for their high oil content and strong aroma.

Each tree produces two valuable spices:

  • Nutmeg – the aromatic dried seed used as a spice
  • Mace – the bright red aril surrounding the seed, with a delicate flavor

These spices are highly appreciated for:

  • Culinary applications in sweet and savory dishes
  • Functional food and beverage formulations
  • Traditional herbal preparations
  • Fragrance, cosmetic, and wellness products

Harvesting & Processing

Nutmeg trees begin to bear fruit after around 8 years and can continue producing for more than 60 years. Our nutmeg is sourced from experienced farmers and processed under strict quality standards.

Typical harvesting and processing steps include:

  • Hand-picking ripe, split fruits directly from the tree
  • Separating the mace from the nutmeg seed
  • Sun-drying the nutmeg seeds for about 6–8 weeks
  • Cracking the shell to obtain the dried nutmeg kernels
  • Quality sorting and grading by size and appearance

Dried nutmeg is ready for export when the kernel shrinks slightly and rattles inside the shell, indicating proper drying and good storability.

Flavor Profile & Culinary Uses

Nutmeg has a warm, sweet, and slightly spicy flavor with a distinctive aroma that enhances both sweet and savory preparations. Only a small amount is needed to give depth and character to recipes.

Common culinary uses include:

  • Bakery & desserts: cakes, cookies, donuts, muffins, custards, fruit pies
  • Savory dishes: mashed potatoes, creamy pasta, cheese sauces, stews, curries
  • Beverages: chai, spiced teas, eggnog, hot chocolate, mulled wine

Nutmeg pairs especially well with cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and vanilla, making it a staple in many spice blends.

Food Industry Applications

Beyond home kitchens, nutmeg is widely used in the food and beverage industry as a flavoring ingredient.

  • Processed meat products: sausages and meat seasonings
  • Bakery and confectionery: donuts, cookies, cakes, custards
  • Dairy and desserts: ice cream, yogurt, flavored milk, puddings
  • Ready-to-eat meals: soups, sauces, gravies, frozen meals
  • Spice blends and seasonings: curry powders, mixed spice blends
  • Functional beverages: spiced teas and herbal drinks

Health & Wellness Benefits

Nutmeg has long been used in traditional herbal practices and is known to contain natural antioxidants and volatile oils.

  • Supports healthy digestion and appetite
  • Helps promote better sleep and relaxation when used in moderation
  • Traditionally used in preparations for mild pain and rheumatism

Final food or supplement formulations should always follow local regulations and safety guidelines.

Industrial & Non-Food Uses

Thanks to its essential oil and fat content, nutmeg is also used outside the food industry.

  • Nutmeg essential oil (approx. 7–14%) – used in perfumes, soaps, personal care products, and aromatherapy
  • Nutmeg butter (approx. 24–30%) – used in balms, ointments, massage products, and herbal topicals
